About MimiLumi Presents

‘Yoga for the rebels at heart
Honest dynamic dance
Love the way your body moves’

MimiLumi Presents Yoga classes are inclusive and light hearted.  It is a practice which stays true to the core values of yogic tradition, but is flexible and adaptive to contemporary life.  It’s yoga for those who like to question and explore, rather than blindly follow. A class where you can learn about your body, and therefore yourself, all while still managing to have a laugh and enjoy the moment.  As at the heart of your practice there should always be joy.

MimiLumi Presents Dance classes are varied in both skill set and age group but at their heart combine a focus on safe practice and developing technical skills, combined with encouraging students to explore their own creativity and movement vocabulary.  Whether it’s a syllabus based class or free-work class, a MimiLumi Presents class will challenge you to push yourself further in a fun, emotionally supportive environment. We believe that dance is for everyone, any age or skill level.

Both sides of MimiLumi Presents feed into each other, our aim is to teach you to love the way your body moves, leaving ego and artifice at the door.

Who is behind MimiLumi Presents

MimiLumi Presents is the creation of Mimi Van Buuren, a freelance dancer and yoga teacher.

Mimi was forged in the fires (think no air-con, 38 degree days) of her local dance studio.  School was more of a hobby, as it was at the studio that she spent most of her hours. Hours spent sweating glitter and swinging jazz hands with her fellow dance obsessives, much to the dismay of her friends outside of that world. Studying a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Dance) at Queensland University of Technology (2007-2009) was the launchpad for her to move onto a freelance career in dance performance, choreography and teaching – carving a reputation as a hardworking and artistically intelligent practitioner.

Introduced to the world of yoga during her full time training, Mimi found that it not only exponentially improved her strength and flexibility but also improved her positivity and stress levels.  Yoga taught her to show compassion not just to others but to herself as well, empowering her in day to day life. Through yoga, she gained a better understanding of her body’s and her mind’s strengths and weaknesses. After one too many times attending a yoga class and thinking, ‘I would have done it this way..’ she realised that yoga teaching could be another feather to add to her cap.  Under the tutelage of the Byron Yoga Centre team, she gained her Level 1 (200hrs) Teacher training accreditation in 2011, and her Level 2 (500hrs) in 2013.

In 2013, Mimi jumped on a plane to London to expose herself to a whole new range of creative ideas and teaching processes, and she has never looked back.
